Police wrapping up probe in fatal hit and run at Farm
As investigations into the death of Farm teenager, Coyan Trotz, who was the victim of a hit and run accident on St Valentine’s night, are being brought to a close, lawmen are preparing to seek legal advice.
Police Commander of Region Three, Simon Mc Bean, yesterday told Stabroek News that the investigators are wrapping up their investigations and will be sending the file for legal advice.
The police had issued a wanted bulletin for 21year-old Balram Nellie, who they said was the suspected driver of the motor vehicle that was involved in the accident.
The driver, Simon stated, had turned himself in yesterday and was questioned. He, however denied all the allegations put to him and declared that the vehicle was not his.
The driver was later released on station bail.
The police were led to the car following a drug bust by the Customs AntiNarcotics Unit (CANU). The car was found hidden in a container with marks and damage consistent with an accident.
On the night in question, at around 10.15 pm, seventeen-year-old Trotz, of Lot 12 Farm, East Bank Essequibo, was struck down and reportedly died on the spot. The accident took place on the Farm Public Road.
The Guyana Police Force, in a brief statement had said that investigations revealed that the victim was walking east along the northern side of the road and was a short distance from his home when he was struck down by a car. The driver, who was alleged to have been speeding, fled the scene. The vehicle was only described as silver grey in colour as its licence plate number and make could not be ascertained.
Family members said no one witnessed the accident and persons only responded after hearing the impact of the collision.
