North Ruimveldt man accused of $1M jewels heist remanded

A North Ruimveldt father of one accused of three robberies including one involving almost $1 million in jewellery was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate­s’ Court yesterday.

Osafo Denhart, 25, of 316 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was arraigned before

Magistrate Sherdel IsaacsMarc­us. It is alleged that on March 21st, 2020, at Jamoon Drive, Meadowbroo­k Gardens, Georgetown, in the company of others and armed with guns, Denhart robbed Lawrence McCray of a 35 pennyweigh­t gold chain valued $400,000, a gold ring valued $150,000 and a diamond bracelet valued $375,000, a total value of $925,000.

On the same day, in the company of others, and armed with guns, Denhart allegedly robbed Ulrick

Edwards of a Samsung Galaxy J2 cell phone worth $26,000. He is also accused of robbing Sherwin La Fleur of one wallet worth $2,000 and $25,000 cash, a total of $27,000, the property of La Fleur.

Denhart was not required to plead to the charges. He told the court that it was his first offence and was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 on each charge.

However, Police Prosecutor Delon Sullivan informed the court that

Denhart was jailed for 24 months in 2014 for a similar offence and might be a flight risk. Denhart denied any knowledge of the jail term.

Consequent to the disclosure, bail was revoked and Denhart was remanded to prison.

Nonetheles­s, he requested bail and was told by Magistrate IsaacsMarc­us that his options include writing to the Chief Magistrate requesting an earlier date for the matter or to the High Court to request bail.

The next hearing is set for April 22nd, 2020.
