Cop jailed for perverting justice in attempted murder case against Maryann Daby

-

John Holder, the police constable charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in the attempted murder case involving Maryann Daby, was found guilty and sentenced to three months behind bars.

Holder, of North Road, Bourda, was found guilty of the charge on July 20th. The sentence was handed down by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs.

The charge against Holder stated that between August 10th, 2018 and October 2nd, 2018, at Georgetown, he attempted to pervert the course of justice by deviating from his statement in the case of the police versus Maryann Daby.

Daby was charged in 2018 with the attempted murder of Constable 24785 Christopher Kissoon. But that matter was dismissed in 2019 after the police failed to prove their case. She was also charged with possession of a firearm while not being the holder of a firearm license. That matter was also dismissed.

With Holder being a key witness against Daby, he had given the police his official statements but during the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge, he told the court that he had falsified his information, a request allegedly made by his superior officer, Gary McAllister, and which would be used to prove Daby as guilty.

Holder told the court that after submitting his original statement, McAllister allegedly told him to change it so it would coincide with the statement of Kissoon. His evidence was resultantly disregarded and he was subsequently charged.
