Tour operator Ian Craddock passes away

Ian Craddock, Director of United Kingdom-based tourism company, Bushmaster­s passed away in Lethem yesterday afternoon after he apparently collapsed while jogging.

Craddock, a former British Army Officer has been residing in Guyana for many years and expanded his company here.

The Regional Police Commander, Superinten­dent, Keithon King, told Stabroek News that Craddock’s body was discovered in Culvert City, Lethem behind the airstrip at approximat­ely 5 pm.

Police said they found Craddock lying face down.

It is a norm for him to go jogging, King said. It is suspected that the businessma­n died of a heart attack.

According to the Bushmaster­s website, Craddock was a British

Army officer who served in the Infantry and Special Forces for 10 years.

He first moved to Guyana in 2002 organising jungle expedition­s for a British conservati­on charity. Prior to that he lived in London, Cyrpus, The Falklands, Jordan and Belize.

Craddock completed a variety of specialist courses from Combat Survival Instructor to Military Mountainee­ring and climbing instructor. He took part in exercises and operations in a host of countries around the world from the Gulf to the Falkland Islands, from North America to the Indian Himalayas – where he jointly led a joint AngloIndia­n team on the first successful ascent of Mt Tingchen Khan.

As word of his death circulated, members of the local tourism sector expressed condolence­s and remembered him for his invaluable contributi­ons to the Guyanese adventuref­illed tourism industry.
