Hercules successfully completes FIBA basketball certification
Junior Hercules, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) National 3x3 Coordinator, has officially earned his FIBA 3x3 certification following the successful completion of the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA) Virtual 3x3 Workshop Platform.
This was revealed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Hercules, the course was officially completed on July 27th following an examination. Hercules disclosed that he is the second Guyanese to secure the certification following the success of GABF General Secretary Patrick Haynes, who also participated in the forum.
Hercules disclosed that his intention is for the country to be able to create the capacity to stage local and international tournaments, as well as conduct events at the respective school level. He added another aim is for the increase in promoters and individuals with FIBA certification which will enable the advancement of the format.
According to Hercules, “My hope for 3x3 locally is for Guyana:(1) To be hosting 3x3 Tours & Zone Championship in the length and breadth of Guyana thereby providing a direct path to 3x3 Olympic games. (2) National 3x3 School Championship. (3) Multiples 3x3 promoters with FIBA Certification promoting games across Guyana.”
Hercules revealed that several challenges currently impede the development of the format inclusive of an insufficient promoter of the format as well as a committed group of individuals who could craft policies to improve the popularity of the sport.
He added, “Current Challenge: (1) Inadequate 3x3 Promoter. Model Country Netherland and (2) a dedicated team to help push the 3x3 agenda to possibly rival futsal success.”
