The Guyana Oil Company Limited ( GUYOIL) yesterday announced the appointmen­t of Trevor Bassoo as its new General Manager, effective from October 19th, 2020.

Bassoo will be performing the duties of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Renatha Exeter who has resigned from the company.

Public Relations Officer ( PRO) of GUYOIL Lanessa John- Forbes yesterday confirmed with Stabroek News that Exeter resigned “on her own free will” on August 18th, 2020.

John-Forbes said that GUYOIL is currently going through a transition process. She added that Exeter is assisting with this and will be officially departing at the end of this month.

“She (Exeter) is here assisting with the transition as Mr. Bassoo takes over and will be leaving in the end of November,” JohnForbes said.

In a press release issued yesterday, GUYOIL said that Bassoo was interviewe­d and selected to the Board of Directors to join the company.

Since his appointmen­t, the release said that Bassoo has been engaged in reviewing the company’s operations and interactin­g with staff members in an effort to understand the current position of the company.

The release stated that Bassoo has since related his intention to expand the company’s operation across the country and to bring relief to the citizens by offering a reduction in the fuel price.

“Acknowledg­ing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the livelihood of Guyanese, the new General Manager stated that the Company’s immediate objective is to bring relief to the people by way of reducing and stabilizin­g the fuel price,” the release said.

“Mr. Bassoo further noted that as the country’s largest supplier of petroleum products, under his leadership, GUYOIL plans to expand its operations across the country reaching the people and businesses in the remote areas. He reassured that improvemen­t of: Product Quality; Health, Safety and Environmen­t; Customer Service and Branding are priority for the company in the near future,” it added.

According to the release, Bassoo is the holder of a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Guyana, a CAT accounting qualificat­ion from the Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s, a PhgC. in Business Administra­tion from the University of Leicester and an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business.

GUYOIL noted that Bassoo has 20 years of experience in public and private sector management and is currently in the process of completing his Commonweal­th Masters in Public Administra­tion (CMPA) at the University of Guyana.
