-Hutson says he expects huge turnouts

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) will run off its first calendar activities for the 2020/2021 season tomorrow with two Cross Country events.

Tomorrow’s fixtures will be staged simultaneously from 14:30hrs at the Bayroc Ground in Linden and at the Esplanade Ground in New Amsterdam.

According to president of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, the COVID-19 safety measures and guidelines will be enforced.

“All athletes entering the venue will be tested and must show up wearing a mask and masks will also distributed at the events.”

Hutson added that he expects a huge turnout at both venues based on the fact that athletes are eager to compete since last season was truncated due to the pandemic.

“This is the beginning of the strength training season and the association expects a lot of athletes to show up to get their competitive juices flowing once again. We expect athletes from Georgetown, East Bank, the West Coast and the West Bank area to make their way to Linden.

Some of the Georgetown athletes, including Cleveland Forde, athletes from the East Coast, West Coast Berbice and New Amsterdam will be going to the Esplanade Ground to do their version of the Cross Country run for the first calendar activity for the season.”

Transportation will be provided for the city based athletes following the events. However, this only applies to AAG registered athletes.

If fans would like to witness the events, they must practice social distancing and wear a mask at the venue. (Emmerson Campbell)
