Woman critical after car topples along Soesdyke-Linden Highway

-

A woman remained critical in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday after a vehicle toppled at Hill Foot Public Road, SoesdykeLinden Highway on Sunday.

Aaliyah Norton, 23, was said to be seated in the back seat of a car when it toppled and ended up in a trench close by, causing her to suffer injuries to her head.

A Guyana Police Force report stated that the driver of the car, a 23- year- old resident of Second Street, Sandville, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was said to be proceeding west along the southern side of the public road at about 8.30 pm, when he alleged that an unknown vehicle, said to be proceeding in the opposite direction, overtook another vehicle and ended up in his path.

The report stated that after observing what took place, the man tried to avoid a collision and as a result there was a blowout of his right side rear tyre and he subsequently lost control of the car.

The vehicle then toppled and ended up in a trench located on the southern side of the road.

Norton was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state by the driver and public-spirited citizens and subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where she was admitted as a patient in the Intensive Care Unit.

Guyana Police Force spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor, yesterday told Stabroek News that Norton was still to regain consciousness as her condition remained critical.

The driver was taken into custody to assist with the investigation.
