1000 houses to be built in Region 10 – President
-young professionals to get 50 homes in Amelia’s Ward
President Irfaan Ali yesterday announced that residents of Region 10 will soon benefit from the construction of 1000 homes.
The Head of State was at the time addressing concerns relating to job creation in Region 10 communities that were raised by representatives of a local women’s group, according to a release from the Office of the President.
“We will be engaging the young people and women in the construction of the homes,” he told the group of women during a visit to the region.
“We need the materials for the construction of these houses to come from this region. The lumber, the sawmill,
block makers and carpenters will all be engaged, if you don’t have the skills, we will bring in people to train you so that employment is created for the residents here”, the President stated.
Ali also announced that by the end of October this year, 50 homes for young professionals will be constructed in Amelia’s Ward, Region 10.
He made the announcement following a discussion with doctors from the region, who highlighted a housing shortage.
“Here is what we are going to do, we are going to bring the bank in... and we’re going to develop 50 Young Professional homes. We have the designs just like we did for Eccles. So you’ll be living in an environment that you’d be proud of. So we will set aside 50 house lots. We will build the homes”, he said according to the Office of the President.
Ali told the doctors that officials from the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) will return to the region on Monday with representatives from the banking institutions to speed the prequalification process.
“We will pre-qualify you, so you will get your loan, your house lot and your house on the same day.”
The President urged the health workers to ensure that they work together in delivering optimal healthcare services to the residents of the region.
Immediately following the announcement, the release said that one of the beneficiaries, Dr Aliana Anderson, used the opportunity to express gratitude to the President.
“I feel very pleased because we go there and say that we are young professionals and right away he knew exactly what could have been our issue. I was just thinking about a whole long speech I had to say and he just went right to it. I feel very happy and I feel like he is the person for young people, like he wants to see us develop and be better. I am really happy”, she was reported as saying.
Several Government ministers, including Charles Ramson Jnr – Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport and Dr Vindhya Persaud—Minister of Human Services and Social Security addressed the concerns of the women at the meeting.
