Lack of player movement and transfers may be result of pandemic - GFF

-

With continued uncertainty existing over the return of local football due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a lack of player movement and transfers amongst the varying clubs highlights the current Guyana Football Federation (GFF) January transfer period.

This was disclosed by GFF Communications Officer, Keeran Williams, during a brief interview with Stabroek Sport. According to Williams, while the majority of the player transfers transpire in the final week of the window, uncertainty remains as to whether the lack of activity is directly related or influenced by the continuing health crisis.

He stated, “The window is open locally, some movement has occurred but the time has not reached yet where most of the movement happens because most of the movement traditionally occurs very late in the window. We can’t say the current lack of movement, if it’s a traditional thing or because of the current situation, but most transfers occur very late around the 25 th to 31st.”

According to the information from the official FIFA Worldwide Registration

Periods Calendar, Guyana’s ongoing Transfer or Registration period will occur from January 1 st to 31 st , 2021. This applies to all three aspects of the season which are the Men, Women and Amateur sections.

Meanwhile, the second Transfer or Registration Date was not listed. This also relates to all three segments. Efforts to contact the General Secretary Ian Alves for clarification on the aforesaid dates proved futile. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time.
