Black Bush family at a loss after relative takes his own life
After receiving information that a body matching the description of their missing relative was found hanging from a tree in Rosignol on Saturday afternoon, the day their relative went missing, a Black Bush Polder family ventured to Region Five yesterday morning where their worst fears were confirmed when they positively identified the body to be that of their relative, Nezamadeen Kalamodeen.
Kalamodeen also known as ‘Javid’, 37, a vendor of Yakusari North, Black Bush Polder, left home to head to the Rosignol Market on Friday with his mother and other relatives to ply their trade, as they would normally do.
According to one of his sisters, every week the father of two travels to the market with his mother and relatives, where they would sell on Friday then spend the night at another sister’s house in Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, and then return to the market on Saturday to sell again after which they would return home.
However, the sister said that their father began experiencing some chest pains during the wee hours of Saturday morning so her mother informed Kalamodeen that they would heading home a bit early on Saturday afternoon as opposed to the time they would normally leave.
Hours after, when it was time to leave the market the relatives could not locate the man. After several searches they returned home where they filed a missing person’s report at the Mibicuri Police Station.
Relatives also began posting online asking persons to look out for Kalamodeen. It was not until Tuesday morning that they received information that someone matching the man’s description had committed suicide at the back of Bennett Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
According to information gathered, police in Region Five around 5 pm Saturday afternoon received a call about a body hanging from a tree by a belt in some bushes at the location.
A police source told Stabroek News yesterday that the body was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where Kalamodeen was pronounced dead on arrival, after which the body was placed at Bailey’s Funeral Home awaiting identification and a post mortem examination.
The source noted yesterday that no marks of violence were seen on the body.
The sister yesterday relayed that they are still coming to grips with the sudden death of her brother, who was the sole provider for his wife and children. She said, her brother was good person. “He na bad to nobody,” the woman stressed.
She also noted that the man had no issues with anyone, and that they had no indication that he would harm himself.
Meanwhile, the man’s father, 68, on Monday was admitted to the Skeldon Hospital after it was discovered that he had suffered a heart attack.
The sister yesterday said that they are all just trying to remain strong for each other at this point in time.
