Quote of the day

- Dear Editor, Yours faithfully, Clement J. Rohee

You cannot antagonize and influence at the same time -

A new economic and political philosophy, totally different from that of the previous administration in America, has emerged with the election of the Biden administration.

The US President has set for himself, a number of goals that constitute his core values that will determine the rules he will live by. Some of those rules based on his philosophical outlook did put him from time to time at odds with some of his countrymen. This was a clear indication that the Biden administration is committed to inclusiveness as a means to strengthening democracy and the rule of law. Moreover, the Biden administration has expressed its commitment to racial justice; to listen to one another, hear one another and to show respect to one another”.

As far as international relations are concerned, the Biden administration’s philosophy is reflected in the declaration that; ‘Diplomacy is back.’ In other words, through diplomacy, the Biden administration will seek changes as it relates to American foreign interests. Biden will be tough on China, Iran and Russia but it is early days yet to envisage how that toughness will manifest itself as the days, weeks, months and years roll by. From the Guyana side, the convergence is manifested in the recently announced ‘One Guyana Commission.’ According to the announcement, the Commission’s aim is to; *Foster one nationality and a common love for country; *Build a single Guyanese identity; *End the division caused by race and politics; *Listen to the free expressions of all voices. The initiative is timely and must be given the opportunity to succeed.
