Bail advised for NA woman who fatally stabbed husband

-

The police in Berbice have received advice to release on bail the New Amsterdam woman who fatally stabbed her husband during the wee hours of Friday, until investigators complete their probe, a source said yesterday.

According to the source, the results of the post-mortem examination will be added to the file along with other findings, after which further advice will be sought.

Anita Hanuman, 43, also unemployed of Lot 14 Pitt Street New Amsterdam, dealt Anthony Giddings also known as ‘Big head’, 45, unemployed of the said address, two stab wounds around 1.30 am on Friday using the knife which she claimed he whipped out and attempted to attack her with.

The woman, who after stabbing the man ran over to the New Amsterdam Police Station located several streets away, told investigators that Giddings asked her for a lighter and after she told him she did not have any he allegedly became annoyed and they started to argue.

The suspect has so far claimed that Giddings then whipped out a knife from his waist and threatened to stab her multiple times causing her to run onto the main road where they started to fight.

During the scuffle the woman claimed she took away the knife from the now deceased and dealt him two stabs to the left side of his chest.

The man was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Police Station where he died while receiving treatment.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Giddings died from a stab wound to the lungs compounded by shock and haemorrhage.
