Man injured in highway accident remains in serious condition

-

Sherwin Rhodius, the man who was injured in the accident along the Dora Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Saturday, remains hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.

A relative of the injured man, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News that Rhodius suffered a fractured skull, orbital fractures in three places around his left eye, and a fractured left hand.

Additionally, she said he is complaining of headaches and his face is swollen.

Rhodius, a 46-year-old mechanic of Hadfield Street, Georgetown, was said to have been with his three children at his mother’s residence, when he received a call from Murvey Andrew Madhoo, who requested his help to fix a mechanical issue he encountered with his pick-up truck. Madhoo was killed in the accident.

The relative related that Rhodius made his way to where Madhoo was and they were on their way back to the city when the accident occurred.

The police had said the accident occurred at about 8 pm on Dora Public Road, where a truck, driven by a 34year-old male of Yarrowkabra Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, crashed into a stationary pick-up, #GRR 4627, resulting in the death of Madhoo, 60, of Independence Boulevard La Penitence, Georgetown.

Police had said the pick-up, GRR 4627, was stationary on the western side of the road as goods were being transferred to another pick-up when the truck, which was proceeding at a fast rate, lost control and collided with the pick-up, which then hit Madhoo and Rhodius, who were standing between the two pick-ups.

Rhodius’ relative noted that her family was informed of the accident by a nurse attached to the Linden Hospital Complex who called to relate the news of the accident. She added that she later learnt the details of the accident through Facebook.

According to the relative, Rhodius was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on Sunday and remains admitted there.

The woman thanked the staff of the GPH’s Emergency Unit for their hard work and kindness. She was hopeful that Rhodius would make a full recovery.

A breathalyzer test that was conducted on the driver of the truck found that he was below the prescribed limits.
