Man wanted for fatal shooting at fete turns self in
Less than a day after the police issued a wanted bulletin for Osafo Sereste Grundell, also known as ‘Safo’ or ‘Curlup’ who was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Dale Christopher, the man yesterday turned himself over to the police.
Acting Commander of Region 4A, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram, when contacted by Stabroek News stated that Grundell and the three persons previously arrested remain in custody as the investigation into the matter continues.
Christopher, a 24-year-old construction worker of Lot 12 ‘A’ Rosemary Lane, Cummingsburg, was shot on Tuesday morning at a Republic Day party at Hill Street, Lodge, Georgetown.
According to the initial investigations, Christopher left his home around 01:15hrs in the company of a friend to attend a party. The police had said that at around 6 am while a popular DJ and Selector were performing, approximately two to three explosions were heard which were suspected to be gunshots.
This caused the approximately 500-strong crowd to scatter and disperse, the release added.
Further, the investigations had revealed that a taxi driver who was driving along Mandela Avenue was stopped by three males who were carrying Christopher who was at the time bleeding from a wound to his abdomen.
An examination of the body showed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the centre of his abdomen.
Christopher was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was taken for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Derrick Curry, the father of the deceased, during an interview with Stabroek News stated that according to a video seen by Christopher’s family, he was attacked by four men and was shot by another who came out from the crowd as the victim lay on the floor.
The grieving father said he is unaware of any problem Christopher might have had with the suspect.
He added that he was informed of the shooting sometime around 6 am by the same friend who picked Christopher up in the early hours on Tuesday.
