Upside of Covid – ministers are all over the country

- Dear Editor, Yours sincerely, Reggie Bhagwandin

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused the imposition of severe restrictions to airline travel as well as group gatherings. Headsof-state and various Ministers that would have been plane hopping to the numerous conferences and meetings are now doing all of them virtually.

The upside to this is that our President and his cabinet have freed up a lot of time to physically attend to our problems locally. It is a joy to see Ministers each and every day all over the country, sometimes in one day at warp speed being at extremities, for one minute in Crabwood Creek and the next at Lethem solving a host of issues on the spot.

The President and his Ministers are having a first hand and on-the-ground assessment of the work or lack thereof by designated government agencies and personnel. Clogged drains, silted canals, inoperable pump stations, water woes, lack of electricity, errant engineers, petty crimes, drug abuse, larceny, dilapidated community centres, poor health care service, outstanding pension payments , unattended house lot applications and a host of important community matters that were long neglected or given short shift by government officials are brought to light. The President and his Ministers are actually remedying most of these problems on the spot or instituting systems in place for an effective solution for those that will require some time to resolve.

This is really a situation of the government working for your tax dollars and maybe an upside brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
