Berbice men chopped in separate incidents

Two Berbice men are now hospitalis­ed after they were chopped about their bodies in separate incidents during the Easter holiday.

On Sunday, Vishnu Dalchan, 53, a labourer of Follow Up, Albion Backlands, was allegedly attacked by his workmate, who was identified by the alias ‘Gangster.’ Another workmate, Rudolph Ramdeen, also known as ‘Rudy’, 52, of New Forest, East Canje, Berbice, told investigat­ors that on Monday he was informed that ‘Gangster’ had injured Dalchan after a misunderst­anding.

Ramdeen along with others then went to the area where Dalchan was discovered in an unconsciou­s state. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and has since been transferre­d to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News was told yesterday that the man sustained wounds to his chest and left shoulder.

Meanwhile, Surendrana­uth Sookdeo, also known as ‘Robindrana­uth Sookdeo,’ 31, a farmer of Lot 4 Grant 1771 Crabwood

Creek, Corentyne, is presently hospitalis­ed at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after he was chopped about his body on Monday evening.

Versammy Armogan, 33, a businessma­n of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, told investigat­ors that he was sitting at his residence in the company of others when Sookdeo suddenly came over and stood at a distance. He said he then asked the man to leave since the curfew had started.

However, he said, that suddenly the suspect approached the victim from another location and dealt him several chops about his body, severing a finger in the process.

Sookdeo was picked up in an unconsciou­s state and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital. He was later transferre­d to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he is hospitalis­ed in a serious but stable condition.

Investigat­ors have since obtained CCTV footage and are on the hunt for the suspect, a labourer of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Stabroek News was told yesterday.

Meanwhile, a third man was allegedly dealt a chop to the head by his girlfriend on Monday night. Paramanand Thakur, 29, a hire car driver of Lot 136 Number 60 Village, Corentyne, was forced to head to the Skeldon Hospital for treatment after he was chopped once in the head allegedly by his girlfriend.

According to informatio­n gathered, the two were involved in a heated argument around 10 pm when the woman reportedly used a cutlass to deal the man a chop to his head.

The man then drove himself to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was treated and then discharged. Police are also on the hunt for the woman for questionin­g in connection with the attack.
