-

A water vendor was placed on $40,000 bail after he denied maliciously wounding another vendor by pelting him with a brick.

Ryan Marks, 31, a water vendor of Lot 86 Plum Park,

South Sophia, Georgetown, on Wednesday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann

McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court when the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that on March 20, at Distribution Services Limited Supermarket, located at 38 Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, with intent to maim or disfigure, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Gailton Adam.

The police prosecutor told the court that the two men sell water at the same location at the stoplight obliquely opposite the supermarket. He said that a passenger in a passing bus shouted for a bottle of water, to which both men responded. While approaching the bus, the two bumped into each other and one of the bottles fell. However, Marks succeeded in making his sale of the water. After the bus drove off, Marks approached Adam and dealt him a cuff to the head, then picked up a brick and pelted the man. As a result, Adam suffered lacerations to the forehead and an open skull fracture. The prosecutor told the court that based on the injuries received, the matter will have to be forwarded to the DPP for legal advice.

After the incident occurred, Adam reportedly went to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated and sent home. He subsequently reported the matter at the Ruimveldt Police Station.

After entering a not guilty plea, Marks was placed on $40,000 bail and told to make his next court appearance on May 12.
