Two men from regions Six, Ten latest COVID-19 fatalities

Two new COVID-19 deaths were recorded yesterday and 71 new cases were also reported.

The Ministry of Health announced the latest fatalities through a press release which stated that the number of deaths as a result of the virus now stand at 273. The victims were identified as a 60-year-old man from Region Six and a 56-year-old man from Region Ten. This brings the total deaths recorded for the month of April to 40 thus far.

Meanwhile the Health Ministry’s dashboard showed that the number of confirmed infections in the country has risen to 11,972. These cases were revealed after 676 more persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested to 108,883.

Six regions recorded new cases with Region Four again having the highest number at 47. Two new cases were reported in Region Two, five in Region Three, three in Region Six, six in Region Nine, and eight cases in Region Ten. There are now 1,381 active cases, 73 of whom are in home isolation while another 1,315 are in institutio­nal isolation.

Meanwhile 13 persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and according to the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, this is a fraction of the total number of persons who are currently hospitalis­ed with the virus. During his daily COVID19 update he noted that 71 patients are currently in hospital and are spread across regions Three, Four, Six, and Ten.

Approximat­ely 51 more persons have recovered from the virus lifting the total number of recovered cases in the country to 10,297.
