Assistant Police Superintendent charged with falsifying feeding accounts

-as SOCU’s probe widens

An Assistant Superintendent was yesterday charged and released on bail as the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU) continues to institute charges against members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) over the alleged falsifying of feeding accounts.

Appearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, former Deputy Finance Officer, Assistant Superintendent Roxanne Griffith-Adams was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

The SOCU prosecutor indicated to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan that Griffith-Adams is jointly charged with Woman Senior Superintendent (Ag) Marcelene Washington and former Deputy Commander of Division 4 ‘B’, Woman Superintendent Lorraine Saul, both of whom are out of the jurisdiction. As such only Griffith-Adams was read the indictable charge and released on $150,000 bail.

The charges states that between November 2, 2020 and November 24, 2020, Griffith-Adams, Washington and Saul, conspired with each other and with other persons, while being employed at the Guyana Police Force, to falsify an account, being a feeding account in the sum of $1.1 million in relation to meals purportedly provided by the Tactical Services Unit to officers and Inspectors who performed fixed-point duty at the Tactical Services Unit from October 16 to October 31, 2020.

The matter will be called again on May 14.

Following an investigation conducted by the Auditor General and later the police, SOCU has instituted charges of the same nature against a number of GPF members. On Wednesday Deputy Superintendent, Frank Jackman-Wilburg faced two counts of falsifying feeding accounts. He was also charged alongside Saul and released on $150,000 bail. Two Police Constables, Jenneka Carmichael and Tatayana Smith were charged over the deletion of data on Wednesday and were released on $150,000 bail each. While earlier in the month, Assistant Superintendent Kurt Smith was jointly charged with Saul, for allegedly falsifying payments amounting to $1,350,000, and $465,000, purporting to show that meals were supplied to ranks of the Riot Unit training during December 1, 2020 and December 15, 2020. Smith was released on $100,000 bail.

Additionally, retired Assistant Police Commissioner Kevin Adonis, of Lot 95 Stewartville, West Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Michael Corbin, of Lot 315 First Avenue, Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Jermaine Fraser, of Lot 4116 Phase One Westminster, also on the West Bank; and Police Corporal Rawl Haynes, of Lot 2 Hydronie, East Bank Essequibo, were last month charged with conspiring to steal over $19 million from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and placed on $750,000 bail.
