PNCR executive walks from party over leadership’s shortcomings
Central Executive Committee member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Thandi McAllister has withdrawn her membership from the party, saying, among other things, that the present leadership is ill-suited to “fulfillment of the aspirations of young people in Guyana…”
In a press statement, McAllister, who was also the Chairperson for the party’s Region Three arm, said that she withdrew her membership on June 15th.
“After very careful and agonizing consideration, I concluded that the present direction of the leadership is ill-suited to the fulfillment of the aspirations of young people in Guyana, the enhancement of the party’s supporters, and the advancement of the nation,” McAllister said in the statement.
Consequently, she said she could no longer accompany a process that in her view “has departed from serving the interests of the many who reposed faith in the PNC/R to champion their causes, and to offer constructive pathways for the development of our beloved Guyana.”
McAllister, who is an attorney by profession, said she has served the party for more than 25 years.
When contacted, the former party stalwart said that she has issued a statement about her withdrawal and wishes not to say anything further as “it is what it is”.
She has a long history with the party and her family has also been closely associated with it. In 2008, her uncle, James McAllister, a former
PNCR executive, was removed as a PNCR-1G Member of Parliament (MP), in keeping with a
recommendation resulting from disciplinary proceedings against him.
