Cops awaiting DPP’s advice on fatal Loo Creek accident
The police are awaiting advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concerning the death of Kumar Persaud, who was struck down while riding a bicycle along the Loo Creek Public Road, Linden-Soesdyke Highway almost a month ago.
A source told Stabroek News that the police believe an inquest is needed based on the evidence gathered so far in order to determine who was responsible for the accident. However, the office of the DPP will determine if an inquest should be done or to institute charges.
Persaud, a 48-year-old resident of the Seventh-day Adventist camp site, LindenSoesdyke Highway, was struck down
The driver, a 30-year-old Barbadian missionary, has since been placed on station bail.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that investigations revealed that a pick-up,
GSS 7395, was proceeding north along the western side of the public road when the driver alleged that Persaud, who was in front of her, made a sudden turn into her path.
Upon noticing this, the driver told the police that she pulled further east to avoid a collision but despite her effort, the left side front of the vehicle collided with Persaud.
As a result of the impact, Persaud fell on the road, where he sustained injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the deceased by pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave his cause of death as multiple injuries.
