Mainstay rice farmer found dead
A rice farmer was found yesterday hanging from a tree at Reliance Backdam, hours after his family reported him missing.
The deceased is Narendra Seecharan, 29, of 3B Mainstay, Essequibo Coast, who had left home on Monday to visit several rice fields. He was last seen around 5.30 pm at Lima/Sparta, Essequibo Coast Backdam.
However, after Seecharan failed to return home and calls to his cell phone went unanswered, his family members became concerned and subsequently posted a missing person report on Facebook.
Sabrina Sharma, a sister of the deceased, told this newspaper that family members also made calls to the police station and hospitals to find out whether he was involved in an accident or picked up by police.
The woman explained that Seecharan usually returned from the rice fields between 6 and 6.30 am and after failing to do so concerns were raised. Sharma added that several family members were unable to make contact with Seecharan whom she said would usually return missed calls.
She stated that she was eventually able to track his phone which assisted in finding his location. His phone was later turned off around 7.50 am.
She said after hours of searching her late brother was found some distance away from his motorcycle at Reliance Backdam yesterday morning. He was
hanging from a tree.
Seecharan was expected to visit the city yesterday to conduct a business matter.
The family is asking for an investigation to be conducted since they are of the opinion that he was murdered.
