-

The Essequibo Cricket Board (GCB) is set to benefit from donations made by Odyssey Sightseeing Tours and Star Sports.

This is according to the Guyana Cricket Board.

Chairman of the ‘Special Sub-Committee for the development of Essequibo cricket, Ryan Hercules, received donations from the two organisations on behalf of the area committees of the ECB.

Making the presentations were Troy Khan, Manager of Odyssey Tours and Colin Stuart, Territorial Development Officer of the Guyana Cricket Board, on behalf of Star Sports proprietor, Sheik Mohamed.

According to a release, Khan indicated that his company has a vast interest in the development of cricket in Guyana and, after being approached by the Cricket Development Committee (CDC) of the GCB for support, they felt obliged to make a meaningful contribution.

He said that given the initial feedback on the needs of the area committees in Essequibo, members of his company decided that the donation of balls and scoring books will go a far way in assisting the area committees to run off tournaments, particularly in the recording and storing of valuable data for purposes such as player selection.

Hercules, in accepting the donation, commended Odyssey Tours on its substantial contribution reiterating its value to cricket competitions and player selections in Essequibo. He remarked that the gesture was a worthwhile one and that members of the area committees of the ECB were grateful for the donation.

Stuart expressed appreciation to Odyssey Tours for their substantial donation which he indicated will certainly make a positive impact on Essequibo’s cricket.

He remarked that, with corporate Guyana placing greater emphasis on the development of sports in Guyana, players and administrators are set to benefit from more structured approaches to player development.

Stuart said the value of this contribution cannot be underestimated, adding that the collaborative approach to cricket development will hopefully catapult Guyana’s cricket to new heights.

“We are confident that the contribution made by Odyssey Tours to the ECB’s area committee will help in no small measure to improve the standard of cricket in Essequibo,” said Stuart.

Stuart whilst handing over the coaching equipment from Star Sports to Hercules, complimented him and the deputy chairman for the high level of enthusiasm and interest they demonstrated to the work of the newly formed sub-committee responsible for assisting with the

development of cricket in Essequibo.

He pointed out that there is clearly much work to be done to improve the standard of cricket across Guyana, adding that the GCB was looking forward to collaborating with all affiliates in structuring a sustained approach to the development of cricket.

Stuart said that the GCB was grateful to Star Sports for its generous donation and feels confident that the coaching equipment will go a far way in enhancing the activities of Essequibo’s coaching and education programme.

Hercules, in accepting the donation, praised Star Sports, indicating that the donation will assist coaches at the county level in carrying out their tasks.

He commended the CDC of the GCB for the work they are doing and pointed out that by placing a sub-committee arm of the

CDC to focus on Essequibo’s cricket development, it gives the assigned individuals the opportunity to narrow their

focus on critical development areas required for Essequibo cricket in a timely manner.
