Maximo, Technical Staff to decide on resumption of training

— Golden Jaguars team manager Rawle Adams

With no official international matches or tournaments scheduled for the remainder of the year, the local contingent of the Golden Jaguars, the senior men’s football programme, is yet to resume training sessions at the National Training Centre, Providence.

Team Manager of the Golden Jaguars programme, Rawle Adams, during a brief comment stated that the local training sessions have not resumed since their return to local shores from the Gold Cup Qualifiers, adding that the technical staff will decide and determine the timeline for the eventual resumption of training.

“We have not started back. Nothing has been communicated to me,” said Adams. “Nothing has been said at all. That will be dependent on the head coach and the technical staff who will decide that. Since I have been back I have not gone into the federation. I have no idea about that. They have not said anything and I have not heard anything since the team came back,” Adams added.

The Golden Jaguars are expected to remain dormant on the international circuit for the remainder of the year following disastrous 2022 World Cup and 2021 Gold Cup Qualifying campaigns. No competitive

The Golden Jaguars were dumped out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, after concluding the group campaign with a record of three losses and a win.

Guyana lost to Trinidad and Tobago (4-0), St. Kitts and Nevis (30) and Puerto Rico (2-0), with their only victory occurring against the Bahamas (4-0). In the regional tournament, Guyana suffered an embarrassing defeat to Guatemala (4-0) in the first round.

Stabroek Sport made several unsuccessful efforts to contact the head-coach Marcio Maximo. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time yesterday. Similarly, efforts to solicit a comment from Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Ian Alves, and Communications Director Keeran Williams were also unsuccessful, as calls to their respective cellular devices were also unanswered.

The Golden Jaguars’ competitive record under the Brazilian native, who replaced Michael Johnson at the helm of the programme in 2019, stands at four wins, six losses and a draw, of which four losses have occurred in their last five fixtures.
