Grant Stuart wins Victor Macedo road race from quality field
Walter Grant-Stuart finally had his proud moment atop his saddle yesterday.
After failing to crack the top 10 in his road race and the time trial event at the Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan earlier this month, Grant-Stuart brought his talents back to Guyana and won the Victor Macedo road race yesterday.
Staged from Thirst Park to Long Creek and back, the onearmed wheelsman made hay in the brilliant sunshine, out riding a quality field of riders in the gruelling 70-mile event to earn his first signature win of this year’s campaign.
Clad in a crisp black and white racing kit, Grant-Stuart, who created separation from the peloton at Eccles stopped the clock in a brisk 3h:08m.20s for the annual event which attracted 44 starters.
He led breakaway mates, Christopher Griffith and Andre ‘Padlock’ Green onto the podium while Cortis Dey, Alex Mendes and Alonzo Ambrose rode in close behind to round out the top six senior rewarding positions.
Grant-Stuart was also the recipient of the top veteran prize with Mendes and Kwame Ridley bagging the other two. It was a great day of racing for GrantStuart who celebrated with his trademark sole index on his lips as he victoriously crossed the finish line.
Meanwhile, Mario Washington continued his sublime form in the junior division, winning ahead of Aaron Newton and Sherwin Sampson.
Suzanne Hamilton once again turned back the challenge of Clavicia Spencer to take the
spoils in the female category while Talim Shaw, Kennard Lovell and Garfield Lorimer were the top three finishers in the Masters Over-50 class.
Upon completion of the Flying Stars Cycle Club (FSCC) organized fixture, the sponsors of the event distributed prizes to the standout cyclists.
Another FSCC organized event is scheduled for October 10 and Grant-Stuart will be gunning to add another late season win to his palmarès.
