Arjune tapped as coordinator in upcoming FIBA Florida 3x3 Championship

President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), Michael Singh, has officially confirmed that the entity’s Youth and Women’s Leader, Sileena Arjune, will be the coordinator of the men and women’s 3 x 3 teams at the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup Championship in Florida.

This was confirmed during a brief interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Singh, the emerging administrator will serve in the capacity of coordinator and manager at the event which is set to be staged from November 12 to 14.

Singh explained, “She is coordinating, and she is also managing the team and will be representing the country at the FIBA Adelante Programme. All of this is happening in Florida at the same time. She will be managing both the male and female teams.”

He also disclosed that the federation was in the process of finalising the requisite documentation for the respective teams, a timeline which Singh envisions, will conclude in a matter of days.

“We are still sorting out the vaccine issues and passports. In a week’s time it will be sorted, the focus is getting the vaccine and passport dealt with and the team registered on the 3 x 3 domain,” he explained.

The men’s division will feature the likes of Argentina, Aruba, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, USA, and Venezuela.

In the women’s section, the teams are Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, USA, and Venezuela.

FIBA 3 x 3 AmeriCup Open Category will feature 33 teams. That equates to 18 men’s teams and 15 women’s units. Guyana will feature in Qualifying Draw ‘C’ in the men’s pool alongside Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia. Similarly, Guyana will also participate in qualifying draw ‘A’ in the women’s section against Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, and Jamaica.
