Broncos Athletics saddened by Ramdhani’s passing

The news of Gokarn Ramdhani’s passing has left the sports fraternity in a state of shock including Canadabase­d Bronco’s Athletics.

Ramdhani, who passed away last Friday after suffering a heart attack in Canada functioned as both the badminton head coach for the school as well as president of the Guyana Badminton Associatio­n.

“Broncos Athletics is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Broncos badminton head coach, Gokarn Ramdhani on October 8, 2021,” a statement from the institutio­n said.

They also described the 55-year-old as “incredibly talented and a dedicated coach, father and friend.”

The statement added, “Our thoughts and sympathies are with friends and family of Gokarn and in particular his wife and his two children, both who are incredibly accomplish­ed badminton players. Priyanna plays for Olds College and her brother [Narayan] plays for The King’s University.”

“Gokarn is a sporting legend from his native Guyana where he served as president of the badminton federation. Beloved by his athletes, Gokarn will be remembered as a great friend and mentor on and off of the court. A technical mastermind in the badminton world, what he contribute­d on the court was just as valuable as the positivity and love he showed off of it,” Bronco’s statement continued.

The institutio­n said that a memorial, which began last Tuesday, is being displayed outside the Broncos Athletics Office.

“Anyone wishing to pay their respects can drop by anytime and leave a note or tribute to Gokarn.”

Also paying tribute to Ramdhani were the Guyana

Olympic Associatio­n where he served as a council member, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission and the Berbice Cricket Board.
