Massy six percent salary hike to last until 2023

Massy Distributi­on has agreed to a six percent wage and salary increase for its workers.

According to a Ministry of Labour release, Massy Distributi­on (Guyana) Inc signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU) in the Ministry of Labour’s boardroom yesterday.

Prior to yesterday’s signing, the release stated, representa­tives of both parties held a virtual engagement where the agreement was made. The MoU states that with effect from October 1, 2021, all fulltime employees will have the increase applied to their salaries which will last until 2023.

Resources Manager, Sharon RodriguesA­lguram. The CCWU had in its corner, General Secretary (Ag), Cloreen Joseph; Consultant, Grantley Culbard; and General President, Sherwood Clarke.

In his remarks at the signing, Bobb-Semple was quoted as saying, “Massy Distributi­on continues to have a cordial relationsh­ip with CCWU as both parties remain committed to the well-being and welfare of all employees. The agreement signed today supplement­s the company’s efforts which are geared towards enhancing the livelihood of our employees. During the year we issued $15,000 and $25,000 flood relief cash grants to those employees who were affected, in addition to a special hamper valued at $20,000 for all employees.”

He also disclosed that within the next two weeks, the company will issue an additional six weeks bonus for all junior employees along with a Christmas hamper valued at $35,000.

Meanwhile, the Chief Labour Officer said he was pleased that both parties were able to come to an amicable solution, the release added.
