Corentyne man dies following Christmas Eve accident
A Corentyne man lost his life on the eve of Christmas after he was involved in an accident along the Bush Lot Public Road.
Dead is Ajay Caramchan, 28, of Lot 86 Churchill Street, Springlands, who was driving a white Toyota Spacio, HC 9648. Vishal Rabinchan, 26, the driver of the other motor car, HC 4263, involved in the Friday night accident, sustained injuries about the body.
According to information gathered, Rabinchan was proceeding east along the public road reportedly at 65 kmph, while Caramchan who was proceeding in the opposite direction, allegedly at a fast rate, overtook an unknown vehicle which was proceeding in the said direction and ended up into Rabinchan’s path.
According to the Guyana Police Force, “This caused the driver of hire car HC 4263 (Rabinchan) to apply brakes and swerve left to avoid a collision but despite his effort hire car # HC 9648 (Caramchan) collided with the front right portion of the said vehicle.”
As a result of the head-on collision both drivers who suffered injuries about their bodies were rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital.
Caramchan was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he succumbed shortly
after. His relatives were told that he suffered internal injuries causing him to bleed heavily.
Meanwhile, after the accident a number of Heineken bottles were discovered in Caramchan’s car. It is suspected, that he was transporting the items.
The police have said that a notice of intended prosecution was served on Rabinchan who was discharged from the hospital on the said night of the accident. A breathalyzer test carried out on him after the accident read zero.
