GTI maintains perfect record in youth basketball

Government Technical Institute (GTI) ended the preliminar­y round of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Tertiary/University League with a perfect record, defeating Port Mourant Training Centre 69-57 on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretc­h Avenue.

Josiah Robert led the way with 15 points, and 11 rebounds while Leron Thom contribute­d 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kobe Tappin added 12 points. For the Berbicians, Joseph Daniel top scored with 17 points, and 13 rebounds, while Shaquan Lucas added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Chipping in with 13 points was Angelino Ramdial. Meanwhile, Linden Technical Institute defeated the Guyana School of Agricultur­e 61-46. Shamar Savory amassed 15 points and as many rebounds for the victor, while Ming Wong supported with 11 points, and 10 steals.

For the loser, Jushawn Bayley tallied 19 points, and seven rebounds, with Richard Semple adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. Likewise, the University of Guyana (UG) brushed aside New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) 69-58. Shaquawn Gill registered 25 points, and 14 rebounds, while Kwesi Roberts scored 10 points and six rebounds.

For NATI, Qwesi Joseph recorded figures of 17 points, and six assists, while Charles Williams ended with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The semi-final stage of the event will commence on Sunday, May 22nd at the same venue from 16:00hrs. NATI will match skills with UG, while GTI will engage LTI at 17:00hrs.
