Adaptation integral for team’s success in Netherlands - Estwick
West Indies Assistant Coach, Roddy Estwick, is aware of the importance of adapting to the conditions if his team is to be successful on their maiden tour of the Netherlands.
Estwick, at a press conference yesterday, opined, “I think the challenge would be adjusting to the pitches, getting used to the conditions. We don’t know what the conditions will be like in Holland [Netherlands], it could be cold, it could be hot, but it is adjusting to the conditions.”
The former fast bowler indicated that their preparation over their three-day practice will be vital towards their overall assessment.
When asked about their knowledge of the team, he responded, “Obviously we haven’t played any cricket against Holland, so we don’t know a lot about the players. Once we get there we will have a look at the footage and get the analyst to come up with the footage, strengths and weaknesses and come up with a game plan but the key thing is about focusing on us, getting on top of our game and we get as much information while we are practicing about the conditions.”
Estwick viewed the two tours, including their tour of Pakistan as an opportunity for the players to grab and show the selectors their skills so as to advance their chances of selection in future series.
“I look at it as an opportunity for the young players… opportunities are never missed they are only grabbed by someone else and a chance for some someone like Keacy Carty, someone like Nkrumah Bonner, people like that to really grasp the opportunity, you’ve been given the opportunity to be selected for the two tours, Holland and Pakistan, so it’s good for you to grab the opportunity with both hands when it arises.”

Netherlands are sitting at 14th. Out of 92 One Day Internationals (ODI), Netherlands have won 34 with successes over Bangladesh, Ireland, and Zimbabwe.
These two sides have faced each other twice with West Indies coming out successful on both occasions. This will be their first clash in 11 years.
The three ODIs will be played on May 31, June 2, and June 4.
