Twenty-seven police ranks complete Elementary Prosecutors Course

-

Twenty-seven police ranks yesterday completed the first Elementary Prosecutors’ Course 1/2021.

The closing ceremony was held at the Police Officers’ Training Centre, Eve Leary. The ranks were welcomed by Force Training Officer Superintendent Keithon King, while the course review was done by Corporal Munesh. Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ (ag) Calvin Brutus delivered the brief remarks at the ceremony, a release from the police said.

The course which is the first of its kind was a collaborative effort between the Guyana Police Force and School of Nations University, comprising of two Assistant Superintendents, three Sergeants, seven Corporals, three Lance Corporals, and 12 Constables. The Prosecutor’s course commenced on the 16th October 2021 and lasted for six months. The aim is to equip ranks with the necessary skills to become prosecutors within the Magistrate’s Court, the release said.

The ranks were selected from various Police divisions based on their performance. During the course, they were also exposed to Basic English training, Trafficking-In-Person seminars, and Gender-Based Violence, among other courses.

Brutus, during his brief remarks, noted that the event marked a significant step in the Guyana Police Force achieving its strategic plan. Brutus added that the development of members of the force is critical to ensuring that the GPF delivers the quality of service under its mandate.

“We’re at a stage where over a period of time and due to retirement, resignation, and other matters, our stock of trained prosecutors has now been depleted,” Brutus stated.

This first batch is set to fill those gaps

by next week.
