Guyana Women go down to Barbados Women in low scorer

Guyana Women fell seven runs short of their target as Barbados Women got off to a winning start in the Cricket West Indies regional CG Insurance T20 Blaze tournament at the Providence Stadium yesterday.

Barbados won the toss and decided to bat first in the second match of the day and were bowled out for 86 in 19.2 overs. Guyana, in reply reached 79 for nine, when their innings ended.

West Indies seamer, CherryAnn Fraser rocked the Bajans with 3-11 and was supported by her fellow internatio­nal team mates, Kaysia Schultz (2-7), Mandy Mangru (2-13), and debutant, Ashmini Munisar with 2-17.

Hayley Matthews top scored with 35 from 44 balls and struck two boundaries before being caught and bowled by Schultz.

Matthews added 38 runs for the second wicket with Kyshona Knight who was the only other batter to reach double figures with 17 from 22 balls before she was bowled by Munisar.

In the chase, Guyana faced an early setback after Mangru had to be stretchere­d off due to a collision with Katana Mentore in the middle while attempting a single.

Mentore was then trapped leg before wicket by Shanika Bruce (1-15) but Shemaine Campbelle and Shabika Gajnabi added 45 runs for the third wicket.

Gajnabi made 14 from 31 balls before being dismissed by Aaliyah Alleyne who also removed Fraser for a duck in the same over.

Alleyne then removed Campbelle for a 38-ball 33 to end with 3-18 while Sheneta Grimmond was bowled for a duck by Matthews (1-7).

Shakera Selman then worked through the lower order to return 3-26 and earn her team victory as only Tremayne Smartt resisted with 13.

Earlier in the day, Windward Islands defeated Leeward Islands by four wickets with 17 balls to

spare. Leewards were contained to 56 for seven from their full quota while Windwards reached 57 for six in 17.1 overs.

Rosalie Dolabaille played the

Cherry-Ann Fraser lone hand for Japhina Joseph (10 not out) along Leewards with a top score of 21 with 16 extras ensured as Pearl Etienne picked up 2-8. Windwards victory despite Leewards did not help their cause Jenison Richards and Rozel with three run outs. Liburd picking up 3-7 and 2-9 Kimone Homer (11) and respective­ly.
