Massacre in the DR

— as Haiti footballers hammer half a dozen past a hapless Golden Jaguars side

-

It was a massacre at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in the Dominican Republic as Guyana suffered a 0-6 drubbing to Haiti in the Concacaf Nations League, besting their worst ever loss incurred against the French speaking nation which was attained three days prior.

The League B encounter was the reverse fixture of the 2-6 drubbing inflicted on the Guyanese at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora on Saturday. The Golden Jaguars were outclassed from the opening whistle, and if it wasn’t for a combination of spirited goalkeeping and wasteful finishing by the Haitians, the

scoreline could have easily been worse.

The statistics illustrate the dominance of the home side. Haiti converted 433 passes after attempting 491. This translated to 68% possession, 16 shots, and six corner kicks. On the other hand, the Golden Jaguars converted 169 passes from 178, with a meagre five shots fashioned in the entire fixture.

Guyana’s starting XI comprised Akel Clarke, Sam Cox, Quincy Adams, Jeremy Garrett, Leo Lovell, Nathan MoriahWelsh, Neil Danns, Stephen Duke McKenna, Kelsey Benjamin, Terell

Simonsen Friborg

Ondaan, and Emery Welshman.

Alex Christian broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, slotting into the empty net unchallenged inside the penalty box, after an initial free-kick from outside the centre of the box, crashed into the crossbar, and rolled fortuitously into his path.

Mondy Prunier made his presence felt to double the lead, directing his header into the left corner in the 48th minute, after receiving a right sided cross inside the left of the six yard area.

It went from bad to worse for Guyana one minute later as Benjamin was sent off

after picking up his second yellow card for elbowing midfielder Steeven Saba after the whistle had sounded for a foul.

Simonsen Friborg then pushed the score to 3-0 in the 63rd minute compliments of a diving header past the goalkeeper, after latching onto a cross from the right side.

Prunier completed his double in the 76th minute, turning the defender after receiving a pass from the right inside the centre of the box, before curling a left footed shot into the left corner.
