Savory’s half-century highlights GTT Fibre T10 second day

With 10 matches played Sunday in the Georgetown Cricket Associatio­n/GTT Fibre T10 tournament, Kemol Savory’s half-century highlighte­d the day’s action.

Malteeones went down by 18 runs to Police who made 102 for three compliment­s of Savory who hammered seven sixes and three fours on his way to 71 not out from 30 balls.

Antony Adams picked up 3-17 and Tyreece Sealy 2-12 to restrict Malteenoes to 84 for six. Shemroy Barrington made 29 while Jeremiah Scott (14), Kellon Carmichael (13) and Steven Jacobs (12 not out) chipped in.

Meanwhile, Transport won the toss and took first strike, posting 87 for seven in their 10 overs with Shamal Angel top scoring with 36 from 18 balls. His innings featured four sixes. Oswald Benn picked up 5-15 in two overs for Third Class.

Third Class only managed 59 by the time their overs expired, losing eight wickets along the way. Orlando Ghisianman top scored with 26 while Lenny Pancham was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 11. Danrad Arthur, Myheim Khan and Shaquan Walter took two wickets each.

Transport lost to Georgetown Cricket

Club by an eight-wicket margin. Transport reached 64 for eight in their 10 overs with Angel again top scoring with 25 from just seven balls. Ronaldo Alimohamed picked up 2-14.

Alimohamed returned to see his side over the line with 33 not out from 13 balls.

He struck four sixes and one four to see GCC reach 65 for two in 7.1 overs.

Earlier, GCC suffered a 66-run defeat to Demerara Cricket Club (DCC). Batting first, DCC reached 123 for three with Raj Nanan hitting three sixes and six fours on his way to 56 not out from 26 balls. Tevin Imlach joined him and raced to 47 not out from 17 balls as the pair added 57 for the fourth wicket.

GCC were limited to 57 for five when their overs expired as Thaddeus Lovell, who picked up two wickets earlier, played the lone hand with 32. Carlton Jacques bagged 3-11 while Nanan returned to take 2-7.

In the first clash of the day between the two clubs, GCC secured a 10-wicket win as Ryan Hemraj (34 not out) and Zachary Jodah (28 not out) saw GCC to 76 without loss in 8.5 overs, responding to DCC’s 74 for six. Lovell again picked up two wickets along with Navindra Persaud.

Malteenoes defeated Muslim Youth Organisati­on (MYO) by seven wickets. MYO were bowled out for 43 in 9.5 overs as Trevon France took 4-4 and Jacobs bagged 3-5. Only Suresh Dhani reached double figures with 10.

Sagar Hatheraman­i picked up 3-10 to keep his side in contention but Carmichael ensured Malteenoes victory with 22 not out from 17 balls.

Everest secured a nine-wicket win over Queen’s College who were contained to 56 for nine in their 10 overs. Everest reached 61 for one in four overs.

Raylex Payne, Richie Looknauth and David Williams all picked up two wickets for Everest as Jonte Thomas (13) and extras (11) were the main contributo­rs to Queen’s College’s innings.

Akshaya Persaud ensured his side victory with an unbeaten 12-ball 40 featuring four sixes and two fours. He was supported by Assad Fuddadin who made 13.

Everest also defeated Police Sports Club by five wickets. Police managed 70 for nine in their 10 overs despite a solid start from Savory (28) and Shemroy Kendall (18) at the top of the order. Kishun Tracy picked up 3-15 while Williams returned 2-14.

Fuddadin piloted Everest’s chase with 32 while getting support from Clinton Pestano who made 19.

In the other matches, Transport beat Guyana Defense Force by 10 wickets but lost to DCC by eight wickets.
