-

Badminton and table tennis will finally be able to call somewhere home. That home will be the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue, as announced by Sports Minister, Charles Ramson Jr., recently.

According to Ramson Jr., the project will begin in the coming days and expected to be completed within six months.

Ramson Jr., who was accompanied by Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, at the prospective site recently, told the crowd that this initiative came after consultations with the Guyana Table Tennis Association and the Guyana Badminton Association over the last two years where his ministry was able to build a strong working and constructive relationship with the two associations.

The new facility is expected to be in compliance with international standards, putting Guyana in better position to host international tournaments and in keeping with His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s vision of improving sport tourism in Guyana.

President of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe thanked the minister for not only this outcome but their continued partnership in facilitating several programmes within the last year and most recently Guyana’s hosting of the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation mini and pre cadet championship.

Similarly, current national coach of the Guyana Badminton Association, Emelia Ramdhani, expressed gratitude to Minister Ramson Jr., and the Government of Guyana for their continued investment in sport and the strong relationship working to advance the interests of badminton players in Guyana.
