Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ East Coast Demerara zone matchups gets underway this evening

The Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ East Coast Demerara zone will commence this evening at the Haslington Market Tarmac from 19.00hrs with eighth eliminatio­n matches, following the official launch yesterday at the Banks DIH Ltd conference room, Thirst Park, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Guinness Brand Executive, Lee Baptiste, disclosed that communityb­ased programmes like the tournament have always been supported by the company, noting that anticipati­on from the respective communitie­s for the event is noticeable following an absence of two years.

He further wished the teams the best of luck, as exciting and competitiv­e football is expected, adding that Colours Boutique has been a pivotal partner with their invaluable contributi­ons of team uniforms.

Troy Peters, Banks DIH Communicat­ion Officer, disclosed that the curtailed season was due to the lack of time available to stage the respective zones, noting that 2023 will feature a return to normalcy for the competitio­n.

Also, tournament coordinato­r, Rawle Welch, praised the company for its continued support and confidence in the tournament officials, positing that the event has transcende­d its humble beginnings and has evolved into one of the marquee local sporting ventures.

The event will utilise an eliminatio­n format featuring 16 teams, with the respective winners advancing to the quarterfin­al section pencilled for tomorrow at the same venue. The semi-final and final will occur on November 5.

The competing teams are: Melanie-B, Paradise, Victoria Church Yard, Liliendaal Hustlers, Belfield, Uprising, BV-A, Buxton Diamond, Victoria Eagles, Portmore, Bare Root, Non Pareil, Team Cruel, Vryheid’s Lust, Haslington, and Old School.
