Former Vice-President of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), Anand Raghunauth, has ascended to the helm of the entity, following a recent board meeting. This was disclosed by an official release from the federation which stated, “The Guyana Chess Federation wishes to inform the public and its chess community that Anand Raghunauth, former Vice President of the GCF, is now the new President of the GCF. This decision was taken by the Board of the federation by way of majority vote at its recent board meeting to fill the vacancy.”

The release informed that the board will undergo restructuring and a new director is scheduled to be named. “The GCF wishes to thank former President Frankie Farley for his tenure of the last three years and wish him every success in his future endeavours”, it added.

Raghunauth will serve as president until the next annual general meeting in

September 2023, when the election for the new governing body is scheduled to be conducted. Raghunauth ascension came on the heels of incumbent Frankie Farley being struck with an allegedly controversial noconfidence motion. Questioned if the no-confidence motion was constitutionally and legally implemented, Raghunauth said, “The board has made a decision, the decision of the board is final and the board stands by the decision.”

However, Farley during a brief comment had this to say, “It’s totally illegal and unconstitutional, because they are not following the procedures within the constitution. They are claiming that I went as a delegate to the CCA in Costa Rica as the reason for the no-confidence motion but that is not true. I went in a personal capacity and not a delegate.”

He further said, “I went privately at no cost to the federation and it’s really conspiracy to remove me.”
