Chanderpau­ls joins celebrated company

Tagenarine Chanderpau­l’s selection to tour Australia with the Kraigg Braithwait­e-led West Indies Team in November/December this year will culminate in a historic sequence.

Tagenarine Chanderpau­l will now join his legendary father Shivnarine Chanderpau­l as the latest father and son duo to have the distinct honour of representi­ng the West Indies cricket team.

The Chanderpau­ls will join the Constantin­es Lebrun and Learie, the Holts, Kenneth senior and junior, the Raes, Ernest and Allan, the Headleys George, Ron and Dean, the Scotts, Oscar and Alfred, the Camerons Dr. John Joseph Cameron, Francis James Cameron and John Hemsley Cameron and

Everton Weekes and David Murray. Lebrun Constantin­e, father of the legendary Sir Learie Constantin­e, toured England before West Indies gained Test status in 1900 and 1906. His son, Sir Learie Constantin­e, played 18 test matches for the West Indies.

John Kenneth Holt, Snr., toured England with the 1923 West Indies team before they gained Test status.

His son John Kenneth Constantin­e Holt Jnr., played 17 Test matches for the West Indies.

George (Atlas) Headley, probably the greatest batsman the West Indies ever produced, played 22 test matches for the West Indies while his son, Ron Headley, played two tests and one ODI, for the West Indies.

Ron’s son, Dean, the grandson of George Headley, played 15 tests and 13 ODIs for England.

Ernest Rae toured England with the West Indies team in 1928 before they gained test status.

His son, Allan Rae, played 15 tests for the West Indies.

Sir Everton Weekes played 48 test matches for the West Indies while his son, David Murray, played 19 Test matches for the West Indies.

Oscar Scott played eight test matches for the West Indies and his son, Alfred Scott, played a solitary Test match against India in 1953.

Dr. John Joseph Cameron toured England with the West Indies team before they gained test status in 1906. His son

Francis James Cameron played five test matches for the West Indies while another son John Hemsley Cameron played two test matches for the West Indies.

Shivnarine Chanderpau­l played 164 test matches and 268 ODIs for the West Indies. Only time will tell how many his son Tagenarine will play.
