Craig man held after car stolen from auto body workshop

he Guyana Police Force yesteray said that it has arrested a 22ear-old man after he was found ith both the keys and a car that as reportedly stolen from an auto body workshop at Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The man has been identified as Christophe­r Persaud of Craig, EBD.

The incident occurred between Tuesday at 6:30 pm and 8 am on Wednesday. According to preliminar­y investigat­ions, the grey Primo car bearing registrati­on number

PSS 6964 was dropped off at the workshop of Rameshwar Dehali at Lot 6 Tank Street, Grove Squatting area around 1:30 pm on Tuesday. The vehicle was supposed to have its back bumper sprayed.

Police said that Dehali parked the vehicle in the yard of his workshop and went home. The car was left in the company of the workshop’s security guard ‘Ellon’ [only name given].

Dehali told Police that when he returned yesterday both the vehicle and security guard was missing. Additional­ly, the keys to several other vehicles were missing. The man said that he tried contacting the security guard but was unsuccessf­ul.

He then placed a call to the owner of the vehicle to determine whether they would have retrieved it but was informed that the car was not picked up. He then launched a search party and acting on informatio­n ventured to Second Street Craig, EBD where they saw the car parked on the northern side of the road facing east.

Three males were seen standing within close proximity of the car and when questioned, identified

Persaud as the driver. Dehali carried out a search on Persaud during which he found the car key, along with other missing keys in his pants pocket.

The Police was immediatel­y summoned and the man taken into custody. The security guard is yet to be found.

Investigat­ions are ongoing.
