GABF shortlists Inter Guiana Games male, female squads

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has shortliste­d a male and a female squad from an initial provisiona­l list of players for the upcoming Inter Guiana Games (IGG) Championsh­ips, to be staged on local shores from November 25th-27th at various venues.

President of the GABF Michael Singh during a brief comment revealed, “This is the shortliste­d teams from the trials held last weekend.”

The boy’s list is : Carmelo Man-Son-Hing (St. Roses High), Domitre Rankin (Christ Church), Kimol Grimmond (Pure

Masters Academy), Jether Harris (University of Guyana), Ezekiel Saul (President’s College), Shannon Wilson (Mahaicony Technical Institute), Charles Williams (New Amsterdam Technical Institute), Kurvin Mars (Mahaicony Technical Institute), Ronnel Campbell (Kwakwani), Jushawn Bayley (Guyana School of Agricultur­e), Travis Lewis (Kwakwani) and Kelon Phillips (Kwakwani). The aforementi­oned unit is coached by Willon Cameron and Courtney Taylor.

On the female side, the shortliste­d players are:

Shania Sears (Kwakwani), Natalya Clarke (Kwakwani), Sherel Leacock (Kwakwani), Malia Samuels (Kwakwani), Rehaicia Romain (Mackenzie High), Talia Gray (Marcy Craig), Kassidy Woolford (Christ Church), Alimah Eastman (Queen’s College), Renee Liverpool (President’s College), Sharay Johnson (GT Academy), Grace Somrah (Zeeburg Secondary), and Shanill James (GT Academy).

Abdulla ‘Zico’ Hamid is the coach while Junior Niles and Ann Gordon will serve as the Assistant Coach and Manager respective­ly.

First held in 1967, the IGG is normally an annual affair, with the previous edition being hosted in Suriname in 2017. The event was previously staged five years prior. Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana are the nations that compete across the discipline­s of Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Cycling, Swimming, Athletics (Track and Field), and Squash. Chess and Badminton were recently added to the list of sporting events.
