Four new police huts for Region Two for Christmas period
At least four new police huts will be established at strategic locations at Anna Regina, Charity as well as
Supenaam on the Essequibo coast to assist with security during the festive season.
This was disclosed by Region Two Commander, Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran during the launch of the Guyana Police Force’s Christmas policing plan in the region on Tuesday morning.
During a power-point presentation the Commander explained that Region Two is to be divided into four sectors as per station district and will be manned by ranks and inspectors. Speaking to regional officials and members of the business community, he assured that it is the Force’s intention to utilise all human and physical resources with the aim of providing a stronger security network as it relates to crime and traffic.
Shivbaran informed that day and night patrols will be implemented in the region from November 15 to January 15. Further, the police will be ramping up their presence due to the expected influx of visitors and increase in business activities.
He assured the business community that there will be an increase in the number of police ranks on foot and on motorcycles who will be collaborating with community policing groups and private security services to make the region safe during the festive season.
“Continuous and proactive security measures will be in place to ensure all citizens in respective of business, shoppers, visitors enjoy the comfort in the region”, he said.
High security
The Commander noted that the large commercial areas which are at the centre of the region and located in the Anna Regina Township presented a possible target hence high security emphasis will be placed to minimise and any possible interference by criminals.
Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva thanked the police for the detailed presentation and commended them for their work. She also thanked them for bringing the Regional Democratic Council on board and pledged its support while stating that the current commander is very responsive to issues. She promised that more activities will be done with youths and commended the commander and team for the work done so far with youths in the region. Also present at the launch were Anna Regina Mayor, Rajendra Prabhulall, and Regional Executive Officer, Susannah Saywack.
