Kares Caribbean Crossfit Championsh­ip gets cracking today

The biggest event of the local fitness calendar, the Kares Caribbean Crossfit Championsh­ip kicks off today at the National Aquatic Centre from 05:00hrs.

The inaugural championsh­ip will pit gladiators against each other in a series of rigorous challenges over the weekend in their quest to be named the fittest man and fittest woman in the Region.

Forty athletes from Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad, Barbados, French Guiana and Bahamas will battle for the spoils and bragging rights.

Organisers have confirmed that the event will see over four million in cash and prizes being rewarded.

Today, the athletes will be tasked with competing in a triathlon and a one rep max back squat.

First up will be a 150m swim at the National Aquatic Centre. The swim will be followed by a twomile ride on the stationary Echo Bike at the same venue. The third leg of the challenge will see the athletes running a three-mile course from the Aquatic Centre to the National Park where they will start the squat event from 09:30hrs.

According to chief organizer, Jamie McDonald, the events for Day 2 which will be contested in the National Park from 13:00hrs, will be released on Instagram and

Facebook at 08:00hrs tomorrow. McDonald also stated that the event will be live-streamed on Instagram.

Headlining Guyana’s challenge would be Dillon Mahadeo, the five-time Guyana Men’s RX CrossFit champion, while on the distaff side, three-time RX CrossFit champion, Delice Adonis will be throwing down the gauntlet to her Caribbean rivals.

Following the athletes’ meeting yesterday, Mahadeo who flew in from his training base, Motion Training in London, England, stated that he is confident of winning the inaugural fixture.

The 27 year-old added that he is excited to be competing on home soil after three years and looks forward to defend home turf and add Kares Caribbean Crossfit Champion to his resume’.

The event will be hosted by Timeka Marshall and tickets are on sale at Fitness Express, Kares CrossFit, and Lotus Hardware.

General admission is G$1000; VVIP tickets will cost G$5,000, while children under-12, would be admitted free.
