Blake confident of securing medals at Champion of Champions tourney in St. Lucia
A confident, medal chasing boxing contingent departed last evening for St Lucia to compete in the Champion of Champions event which will conclude on Sunday.
One of the coaches on the sojourn, IBA Three Star, Sebert Blake was bullish on the chances of his charges prior to departure despite several of them making their international debuts.
“Based on the work that they put in during preparation, I am confident that this team will do well.”
Along with Blake, the touring party comprises nine boxers and two other coaches, Clifton Moore and Clifton Barker.
Blake, who recently received news that he excelled at the IBA Cutman Technician Course added, “I am looking to see all of them finishing at the top of the podium. They all have an understanding of the mission that we are on and they know the importance of representing Guyana and getting to the top of the podium.”
He reiterated that, “I have a lot of confidence in the team, the hard work has been done, now it’s time to go there and perform. As one of the coaches, I am hoping that the youngsters overcome their butterflies early and take their instructions well and pull off their victories day by day.”
The boxers on the sojourn are Tofina Barker (junior 54 - 57kg), Alesha Jackman (elite 60 63kg), Jamal Eastman (elite 60 63.5kg), Brian Harris (elite 71 75kg), Quincy Boyce (elite 75 80kg), Kevon Harris (elite 80 86kg), Emmanuel Pompey (elite 86 - 92kg), Tiquan Sampson (junior 57 - 60kg) and Shakquain James (youth 63.5 - 67kg).
