Sparta Boss in 3-1 defeat of NA United

Sparta Boss and California Square tallied group stage victories when the One Guyana Futsal Championsh­ip resumed on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Sparta Boss overcame New Amsterdam (NA) United 3-1. Jermin Junior opened the scoring in the second minute with a strike to the lower left corner. Curtez Kellman doubled the lead one minute later with a first time strike into the lower right corner after receiving a left sided pass on the right side of the field.

Dane Johnson eventually reduced the deficit for the Berbicians in the 13th minute, stabbing a loose ball into the back of the net after an initial strike deflected into his path. Neverthele­ss, Ryan Hackett sealed the result in the 23rd minute, slotting home unchalleng­ed inside the centre of the penalty area, after receiving a left sided pass following a one-two combinatio­n.

On the other hand, California Square crushed Kitty Spanish 4-0. Teon Vankenic bagged a double in the 13th and 27th minute, whilst Meshach Barratt and Tavel Blaize found the back of the net in the 23rd and 25th minute respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Road Warriors and Ballerz Empire played to a 1-1 stalemate. Stephon Jupiter handed Ballers Empire the initial lead in the 14th minute whilst Benjamin Opara equalised for Road Warriors two minutes later.

Also, Thomas Lands defeated Future Stars via walkover.

The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches. The winner of the tournament will pocket $1,000,000 and the championsh­ip trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $500,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respective­ly. On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player of the event will receive a motorcycle.
