`Return of the Scorpio’ to usher in the return of ProAm boxing

A fight card dubbed ‘The Return of the Scorpio’ will usher in the return of international professional boxing for local starved fans on May 21 at the National Gymnasium.

These and other details were disclosed during the formal launch of the Pro/Am card at the Mirage Banquet Hall on Tuesday.

According to chief organizer, CEO of Briso Promotions, Seon Bristol, the event will be of international flavor on both segments of the card.

According to Bristol, Elton Dharry and Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques will headline and co-headline the event in just under three weeks against Colombians.

Ronald Ramos and Luis Carillo are Dharry’s and Marques’ respective opponents.

While it is currently unknown how many bouts will make up the Pro/Am fixture, it is certain, according to Bristol, to include top elite pugilists on the amateur segment.

For the card’s headliner on May 21, Dharry will mark his return to the ring in over a year. The Jimenez fight will be a stern test and a great way to shake off some ring rust ahead of his July date here with Mexican, Hugo Hernandez for the WBC Silver belt.

The 37-year-old orthodox fighter knows that Father Time is ticking on his career and will no doubt put on a show in front of the local boxing starved fans.

Dharry who has been calling out world champions in his division, fought for the WBA Super flyweight title in 2019. However, he lost to Andrew Maloney in the latter’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia in a controversial ninthround stoppage after the ring side doctor stopped the fight which Dharry said he was dominating due to an eye injury.

Dharry who improved his record to 26 (15KOs)-6-1 with an exciting decision win against Orlando Penalba last April at the stadium, stated that his ultimate dream is to win a world title for Guyana.
