BFA president Forde resigns, VP Randy Sears takes over

-

Sherwin Forde, President of the Berbice Football Association (BFA), has confirmed his resignation from January 1st and first Vice-President Randy Sears has been serving at the helm of the organization since his departure.

This was disclosed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport. According to Forde, who was elected in 2017 and had a previous stint at the helm in ‘90s, “I am no longer there, I resigned on January 1st. I didn’t find the time to commit to the sport and had to step down so that things can be done better by those who are there. My commitment was losing ground because of my work.”

He added, “We had our problems and one major problem was the lack of infrastructure. Of course the GFF [Guyana Football Federation] was made aware of my resignation.”

Asked about the lack of football that has plagued the association and if the GFF assisted in remedying this situation during his tenure, Forde said, “They tried by having these national tournaments but we were hampered because of the lack of infrastructure and the vast area of the region. It’s too much for the association and for a couple of people. Running a competition costs millions in transportation alone.”

Meanwhile, Phillip Carrington, President of Cougars FC, lambasted the current state of football in the Berbice region.

He explained, “In Berbice we have had no football playing since last year. The last football we had was the players preparing for the One Guyana President’s Cup and we have had no organized football senior or junior from the association. Most of the football being played are competitions that are promoted by the clubs to keep the sport going, none by the association.”

According to Carrington the situation has been this way for some time now.

“The association has been in this dormant state for a while now, the most football that the association participates in is this Tiger Rentals because it’s funded by the GFF and the NAMILCO which has started three weeks now. Rosignol United is working in collaboration with the GFF to run this tournament, not the BFA.”

Carrington, a former national goalkeeper said the GFF should be held accountable.

“The GFF should be held responsible for the current situation, they know and are well aware of the current situation with the BFA. The body is in turmoil and they have many persons acting in positions but the committee is not functioning as a body”, he added.
