The Guyana Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) yesterday said that it successfully conducted its fifth legal outreach on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, in New Amsterdam and has one today scheduled at Bartica.

This outreach, held in front of the New Amsterdam Town Council, aimed to provide valuable legal guidance to members of the public. As part of their annual Mother’s Day initiative, the Association also visited the inmates of the New Amsterdam Women’s Prison, a release from the GAWL said. During this visit, GAWL members distributed small tokens to the women while addressing any legal inquiries that arose, further emphasizing their commitment to supporting the community.

Additionally, the Association extended its outreach efforts to All Saints Primary School, where they distributed educational materials and engaged with the students, fostering an interactive and educational environment.

GAWL says it has been actively conducting legal outreaches across Guyana, reaching communities in Lethem, Linden, Plaisance, and Parika. These initiatives have been conducted in collaboration with UNICEF Guyana under the theme of “Women Supporting Justice and Equality.” The final outreach is scheduled to take place today, May 27th in Bartica at the Bartica market from 10am to 2pm.

As a non-profit organization, GAWL’s mission is to educate citizens about their legal rights, with a primary focus on women and children, the release said. The association also addresses legal issues specifically concerning women and children, offering limited legal aid services to those in need.
