Christopher and Heesan DaSilva, a Canada-based Guyanese couple have made significant strides in realising their vision of bringing a golf course to life in the Timehri area. The DaSilvas had signed a lease in September of 2023 with the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission. The ‘Timehri Sands’ course will be a contemporary nine-hole golf course accompanied by a state-of-the-art golf practice facility on 71.5 acres of land at Hyde Park, Timehri.

In a release to the media on Friday, the Guyana Golf Association said that it “is pleased to welcome the Timehri Sands Course, the latest addition to Guyana’s fastest growing sport”.

Notably, over the past two years, the GGA has made inroads in the development and promotion of golf. The GGA has enjoyed partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts Priority Programme and the Ministry of Tourism through the Guyana Tourism Authority.

In the release, Vice President of the GGA Philip Haynes pointed out; “Mr. DaSilva was a frequent visitor to the Nexgen Golf Academy on Woolford Avenue to learn and practise

the sport and we are extremely excited that he was influenced sufficiently to help develop and promote the game in Guyana”.

He declared; “With all eyes on Guyana based on our tremendous success at CSEC in Physical Education, it is only a matter of time before the dream of a World class golf destination is realised as several

18-hole courses are already in design phase for Regions 2, 4 and 5”.

The sod for the ‘Timehri Sands Golf Course and Country Club’ was turned on Thursday in a ceremony at the Hyde Park area. A timeframe of two years has been estimated for the completion of the course and will cost in the region of US $3 Million.
